Increased flooding along our coastline. More severe weather. More asthma attacks and lung disease.
We know what will happen if we don’t act on climate. Fortunately, we have an opportunity to move forward here in Virginia. In June, Governor McAuliffe issued Executive Order 57, which convened a work group of state officials and tasked them with preparing a state plan to reduce carbon emissions.
While climate change remains a global problem, proceeding with a strong plan in the commonwealth sends the message that Virginia is ready and willing to do its part to cut carbon pollution and is taking this crisis seriously.
Virginia simply has a moral and civic obligation to act and now is the time for us to step up. The harmful impacts of climate change to public health and safety, our economy and environment will only worsen.
This workgroup is scheduled to have its final plan before the governor this spring. We hope you will join with us in making sure their end-product lives up to our expectations.
