Any day now, the Environmental Protection Agency is expected to announce its reversal of a rule cutting tailpipe emissions from vehicles and in turn driving down the climate impacts of the transportation sector.
This rule, which accompanied new fuel efficiency standards for vehicles that would have resulted in fleetwide efficiency of 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025, is a necessary step forward in safeguarding public health, growing our economy, and cutting harmful greenhouse gas emissions.
But at the behest of industry groups, the Trump administration and EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt are hard at work putting the interests of big polluters before those of everyday Americans by continuing to reverse these important public health safeguards.
Virginians and our climate can’t afford moving in the wrong direction when it comes to these important safeguards.
Please, tell your representatives in Congress it’s time to put the brakes on reversing clean cars standards.
