RICHMOND – Tonight, Abigail Spanberger was elected as the 75th Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia – the first woman elected to the post in our state’s history. With Spanberger at the helm in Virginia, we have an environmental champion as Governor who will stand up for a clean, affordable energy future and clean and healthy environment for all Virginians.
In response to tonight’s outcome, Michael Town, executive director of the Virginia League of Conservation Voters, issued the following statement:
“Abigail ran a great campaign grounded in addressing the issues that are top of mind for everyday Virginians: rising energy costs and increasing economic uncertainty because of Trump’s misguided policies. After four years of stalled progress in Virginia, Abigail is the proven leader we need to to secure a clean, affordable energy future that lowers costs for Virginians, ensure clean air and water for Virginians across the Commonwealth, and drive forward a new era of environmental leadership. We look forward to working with her Administration in the coming months to shape an agenda that puts Virginians – not corporate polluters – first.”
The Role Virginia LCV Played:
Virginia LCV’s Political Action Committee invested more than $3 million this cycle in field, mail, digital, and direct contributions. Our programs were responsible for 208,000 knocked doors, more than 650,000 pieces of mail, 8.5 million digital impressions, 6.3 million video completions, 42,000 calls and texts, and more than 400 mobilized volunteers. Here’s a full overview of our efforts this cycle.
About us:
The Virginia League of Conservation Voters serves as the political voice of the state’s conservation community, working to make sure Virginia’s elected officials recognize that our natural heritage is an environmental and economic treasure for all. Virginia LCV works with conservation leaders across Virginia and strives for a conservation majority in state government. We secure good public policies on the state level and hold public officials accountable for their positions on environmental issues. For more information, visit www.valcv.org.
