RICHMOND – Tonight, Jay Jones was elected Attorney General in one of the closest-watched races this cycle, completing a statewide sweep in history-making elections in Virginia. A former Delegate, Jones has a strong environmental background and is committed to holding polluters accountable, and using his office to secure good environmental outcomes for the Commonwealth that put Virginians first.

In response to tonight’s outcome, Michael Town, executive director of the Virginia League of Conservation Voters, issued the following statement:

“After four years of having an Attorney General who put big polluters and the lawless Trump Administration first at every turn, it’s clear that Virginians wanted change. Jay’s been a longtime ally when it comes to standing up for the environment, and we’re thrilled to have him as our next Attorney General. The threats to our environment and democracy are very real, and Virginians are fortunate to have an Attorney General who will finally stand up and defend the Commonwealth instead of selling us out to corporate polluters and putting politics above the law.”

The Role Virginia LCV Played:
Virginia LCV’s Political Action Committee invested more than $3 million this cycle in field, mail, digital, and direct contributions. Our programs were responsible for 208,000 knocked doors, more than 650,000 pieces of mail, 8.5 million digital impressions, 6.3 million video completions, 42,000 calls and texts, and more than 400 mobilized volunteers. Here’s a full overview of our efforts this cycle.
