Why Menhaden matter

Menhaden, also known as bunker, are small, filter‑feeding fish that play a crucial role in the Chesapeake Bay. Often called “the most important fish in the sea,” they provide key nutrients to predators, form the foundation of the Bay’s food web, and support coastal communities. This engaging discussion will explore why menhaden matter, the science and policy behind the pressures they face, and how you can help protect this keystone species. Will Poston is presenting on Menhaden 101 and the science behind it, followed by Jay Ford covering menhaden policy
