SB448

Electric utilities; energy storage requirements, Department of Energy to develop model ordinance.

  • Categoría Energía
  • Cámara Senado de Virginia
  • Estado Acts of Assembly Chapter (CHAP0695)
  • Posición VALCV Support

Energy storage is a key component of ensuring a future powered 100% clean energy while ensuring a reliable grid and affordable electric bills.

Energy storage allows clean energy to be dispatchable at times when the sun isn’t shining or the wind isn’t blowing, maximizing the utilization of clean wind and solar.

This legislation increases the state’s energy storage procurement target from 3100 MW to more than 20,000 MW, creates a model ordinance for localities for energy storage projects, and tasks the SCC with working to ensure storage fits into our larger energy marketplace.

These bills were one component of the larger Affordable Clean Energy (ACE) package.

HB895 passed out of the House on a vote of 67-31. SB448 cleared the Senate 22-17 with Republican Sen. Richard Stuart joining Democrats on the floor. The bills were signed into law by Gov. Spanberger.
