The proposed $67 billion merger between Florida-based NextEra Energy and Virginia’s largest electric monopoly, Dominion Energy, would create the biggest electric utility in the world.
And staff at the State Corporation Commission, Virginia’s utility watchdog, just warned that this superutility more than likely means higher upfront bills for Virginians who are already paying more for their electricity because of Big Tech’s data center buildout, and will put us on the hook for paying for NextEra’s dirty dealings in other states without serious safeguards.
We are not the big utilities’ private piggybank. IF this merger goes through at all, we need the strongest commitments possible that Virginians’ already high bills will decrease and that our clean energy goals remain in-tact under any new utility structure. Anything short of this is a bad deal for Virginia.
Tell Governor Spanberger and your state lawmakers to protect Virginians from a bad deal.
