RICHMOND – Tonight, Virginia voters passed Ballot Measure #3, implementing a process to automatically restore voting rights to citizens after they complete their sentences and righting more than a century-old injustice that has disenfranchised too many Virginians for far too long.
En respuesta al resultado de esta noche, Blair St. Ledger-Olson, Director of Advocacy and Campaigns for the Virginia League of Conservation Voters, emitió la siguiente declaración:
“A healthy environment is impossible without a healthy democracy. Tonight’s outcome restores the right to vote for hundreds of thousands of disenfranchised Virginians and enshrines in our constitution a fair and just standard to ensure that all eligible Virginians have a fundamental right to vote. After years of hard work to get this measure across the finish line, we are finally rid of one of the last vestiges of Jim Crow in Virginia. We are committed to continuing to fight for voting rights, to reach and engage more Virginians across the Commonwealth in our democracy, and to help secure solutions that empower communities and protect them from environmental harms.”
