SB823

Contractors; regulation, solar installation companies, sale, lease, etc., of solar energy systems.

  • Category Energy
  • Chamber Senate of Virginia
  • Status Acts of Assembly Chapter (CHAP0852)
  • VALCV Position Support

With an expanded marketplace for residential solar has come an uptick in bad actors who take advantage of customers and undermine clean energy progress.

To address this problem, this legislation requires solar installers to provide customers with a disclosure form for all residential solar projects which clearly lists system specifications, costs and financing options before a contract is signed.

This bill creates common-sense protections for solar consumers in Virginia, while holding solar installers and financing companies accountable for predatory practices.

HB1439 passed out of the House 91-5. SB823 passed unanimously out of the Senate and both bills were signed into law.
