HB807

Electric utilities; shared solar programs, Phase II Utility.

  • Category Energy
  • Chamber House of Delegates
  • Status Acts of Assembly Chapter (CHAP0670)
  • VALCV Position Support

Not every Virginian who wants to power their home with clean solar power has the ability to do so due to limiting factors like a lack of adequate roof space, excess shade, or because they rent and can’t buy and install their own panels.

Shared solar programs, also called “community solar,” help fill this critical gap by providing access to clean energy to Virginians who want it. These small projects are easier to site and bring online, helping reduce solar’s impact on greenspace and furthering Virginia’s clean energy goals.

These bills were one component of the larger Affordable Clean Energy (ACE) package.

HB807 and SB254 expand the shared solar program in Dominion Energy’s territory to 525 megawatts in its second phase and outline a process to lift the cap completely.

HB807 passed unanimously out of the House while SB254 passed the Senate 24-15. The bills were signed into law by Gov. Spanberger.
