HB590

Smart Solar Permitting Platform; established, residential solar energy systems.

  • Category Energy
  • Chamber House of Delegates
  • Status Acts of Assembly Chapter (CHAP0633)
  • VALCV Position Support

Virginia solar consumers have long struggled with a burdensome process when it comes to installing rooftop solar systems.

This legislation streamlines this process for homeowners by implementing Smart Solar Permitting software to help modernize residential solar permitting, cutting project costs and timelines in the process, which will make solar systems more affordable while bringing them online faster.

When fully complete, this system should be able to process 75% of residential solar projects.

These bills were one component of the larger Affordable Clean Energy (ACE) package. HB590 passed out of the House on a party-line vote. SB382 cleared the Senate 22-18 with Republican Senators Richard Stuart and David Suetterlein voting with Democrats. Gov. Spanberger signed both bills into law.
