Following months of stakeholder engagement through an Executive Order-convened workgroup, on May 16 Governor McAuliffe released Executive Directive 11, which tasks the Department of Environmental Quality with drafting a new regulation to cut carbon emissions from Virginia power plants.
Simply put, this is huge! And it shows that when the federal government refuses to act on climate change, or even admit it’s a problem, Virginia is ready and poised to do the right thing to protect public health and safety and to grow its clean energy economy.
Virginia is about to be a real leader in the climate fight. Let Governor McAuliffe know you appreciate him standing up to do the right thing to address climate change at the same time the Trump administration refuses to admit it’s even a problem.
