The rule, passed by the State Air Pollution Control Board April 19, would cut carbon emissions from power plants 30 percent over the coming decade, while linking Virginia to a larger, multi-state carbon marketplace known as the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.<\/p>\n<p>In response to today\u2019s decision,\u00a0<strong>Michael Town, executive director of the\u00a0Virginia\u00a0League of Conservation Voters<\/strong>, offered the following\u00a0statement:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVirginians elected Northam, in part, because he promised to take serious climate action. Today, he failed to live up to that promise. We are incredibly disappointed with Northam\u2019s failure to push back against House Republicans\u2019 attempts to stand in the way of his administration\u2019s signature climate policy.<\/p>\n<p>While this is a setback, it\u2019s not the end of this story. We simply can\u2019t wait for serious climate action \u2013 we\u2019re well past that point.
