{"id":597,"date":"2019-10-22T15:19:53","date_gmt":"2019-10-22T15:19:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/valcv26.wpenginepowered.com\/newsroom\/virginia-lcv-announces-electoral-program-expansion\/"},"modified":"2019-10-22T15:19:53","modified_gmt":"2019-10-22T15:19:53","slug":"virginia-lcv-announces-electoral-program-expansion","status":"publish","type":"valcv_release","link":"https:\/\/valcv.org\/es\/newsroom\/virginia-lcv-announces-electoral-program-expansion\/","title":{"rendered":"Virginia LCV announces electoral program expansion"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><i><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Environmental group more than doubles number of priority House Districts; electoral efforts in 2019 reach $1.5M<\/span><\/i><\/h4>\n<p>RICHMOND \u2013 With a Conservation Majority at stake heading toward Election Day and two weeks to go, the Virginia League of Conservation Voters today announced it had expanded the number of priority districts where the organization is investing big to ensure the next General Assembly puts Virginia\u2019s environment first.<\/p>\n<p>In making decisions to prioritize the races of Shelly Simonds (HD-94), Clinton Jenkins (HD-76), Alex Askew (HD-85), and Rodney Willett (HD-73), Virginia LCV more than doubled the number of priority House districts from the initial program rolled out in early September.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cElection Day will be pivotal for Virginia\u2019s future \u2013 our environment, our health, and our economy \u2013 and our expanded program reflects this urgency,\u201d said\u00a0<strong>Michael Town, director ejecutivo de Virginia LCV<\/strong>.\u00a0\u201cWe must elect candidates in November who will act to address the climate crisis and protect our environment and health instead of catering to corporate polluters \u2013 we simply can\u2019t afford further inaction and obstruction at the General Assembly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Overall, Virginia is investing approximately $1.5 million in this year\u2019s election cycle \u2013 in programmatic investments and direct candidate contributions \u2013 with the intent to secure \u201cConservation Majorities\u201d in both chambers of the Virginia General Assembly. This greatly outpaces what Virginia LCV spent in the 2015 state legislative races.<\/p>\n<p>Investments in target districts are going toward layered communication of direct mail and digital advertisements to voters.
