{"id":1426,"date":"2026-08-18T16:22:48","date_gmt":"2026-08-18T16:22:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/valcv.org\/?post_type=valcv_release&#038;p=1426"},"modified":"2026-08-18T20:08:49","modified_gmt":"2026-08-18T20:08:49","slug":"virginia-lcv-releases-2026-conservation-scorecard-highlighting-lawmakers-failure-to-pass-data-center-safeguards","status":"publish","type":"valcv_release","link":"https:\/\/valcv.org\/es\/newsroom\/virginia-lcv-releases-2026-conservation-scorecard-highlighting-lawmakers-failure-to-pass-data-center-safeguards\/","title":{"rendered":"Virginia LCV releases 2026 Conservation Scorecard highlighting lawmakers\u2019 failure to pass data center safeguards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">RICHMOND \u2013 Today, the Virginia League of Conservation Voters released its 2026 Conservation Scorecard, which ranks all 140 members of the legislature based on their votes on key environmental legislation during this year\u2019s General Assembly session, alongside a new online scorecard platform making it easier for Virginians to access their lawmakers\u2019 environmental records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The full 2026 Scorecard can be viewed and downloaded <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/valcv.org\/es\/lawmakers-scorecard\/\"><strong>Aqu\u00ed<\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While last year saw us award 72 lawmakers for voting alongside our position 100% of the time, this year we recognize none, the first time in our organization\u2019s history we do not have a list of Legislative Heroes due to their failure to deliver serious solutions to the Commonwealth\u2019s most pressing environmental challenge: data centers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This led Virginia LCV to score the State Budget in its entirety, as the final budget deal reached in late June failed to require data centers to do anything to clean up their act or pay their fair share, and included provisions fast-tracking these harmful facilities in low-income and rural communities \u2013 those least equipped to fight the large, wealthy corporations pushing these projects.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cVirginians are tired of watching the richest companies on earth get their way time and time again, while they struggle with higher electric&nbsp; bills, noise, and pollution. The time for ignoring these environmental impacts is over \u2013 lawmakers need to deliver solutions to Virginia\u2019s data center problem,\u201d said <strong>Michael Town,<\/strong> <strong>executive director of the Virginia League of Conservation Voters<\/strong>. \u201cWhile much was accomplished this year to advance environmental priorities \u2013 and we are grateful \u2013 this legislative session will be remembered for what didn\u2019t get done.
