NEWPORT NEWS – Following a historic recount which was decided by only one vote in the 94th House District, Michael Town, Executive Director of the Virginia League of Conservation Voters, released the following statement congratulating Shelly Simonds on her election to the Virginia House of Delegates:

“Virginia LCV would like to congratulate Shelly Simonds on her hard-earned victory to the House of Delegates. The citizens of Newport News have elected someone who will fight on behalf of their interests every day in Richmond. We are proud to have endorsed her candidacy and know she will be a stalwart champion for the environment, tackling climate change, and bringing smart transportation solutions to the Peninsula.”

“Delegate-elect Simonds joins nine other Virginia LCV-endorsed candidates to win their first election, bringing us even closer to a conservation majority in the House of Delegates. Shelly ran on her environmental credentials, and her victory is yet another signal that Virginia voters support cleaner air and water, protecting Virginia’s natural wonders, and continuing to build our clean energy economy.”
